Lost in Translation

Date:2012
Media: Self-made xylophone(wood from red oak and mahogany), electronic components, microphone, video projection, speakers, softwares
Size:40×20×12 inch

Details:
I recorded the sound and video of wind blowing through trees, and the recording was filtered by software to tune the sounds to match the pitches of keys on a xylophone. Images of the trees are presented as form of visual and virtual simulacrum. This is juxtaposed with the abstracted sounds and the physical presence of the xylophone. A microphone without any electronic connection passively faces the virtual image of the trees. I am interested in the possibilities of data abstraction and transformation that underlie the processes used in this piece, in order to create new experiments in data-based media work.
